FAQ

General Questions

Simple Agile Boards gives you flexibility in how you organize your Jira issues.

Create boards with as many columns and swimlanes as you need, independent of Jira workflows. Arrange issues on boards with a simple drag & drop action. And if you map your columns and lanes to existing issue fields, we automatically update the issues move.

The built-in boards you find within Jira are always tied to the issue statuses and workflows. Jira doesn't provide a way to map columns to other issue fields, and it also doesn't allow creating columns (or swimlanes for that matter) with arbitrary names.

This limitation can be particularly impactful in teams consisting of mixed disciplines. Your designers, sales people, QA people, etc might live in the same Jira project as your developers, making it difficult to design Issue workflows that match all their needs.

This is where Simple Agile Boards shines. It's like having Trello right inside your Jira instance. You can make any columns and swimlanes you want, and move issues between them at will.

In all likelihood, you will want to use Simple Agile boards in addition to Jira Agile.

After you've installed the plugin, your JIRA instance will show a new 'Simple Agile Boards' link in the main Jira header, as well as a new 'Simple Agile Boards' link in the project sidebar.

No, and for the foreseeable future that is unlikely to change.

Unfortuntately, that's the way Atlassian handles all licensing.

Regardless of how many users need an app, you end up having to pay for all users in your Jira Cloud instance. This behavior is enforced on the Atlassian side, and outside of our control.

Absolutely nothing!

We keep track of the boards, columns, swimlanes, and which column/lane an issue is assigned to in our own database tables.

When you uninstall the app, your projects and Jira issues remain as they are.

Of course!

We are always looking for ways to improve our apps, and the best way to do that is with your input.

Using Simple Agile Boards

Nope. Once a Board is deleted it is gone forever.

Simply move it back :)

By default, new boards are shared with everyone in the projects configured in the board.

You can however change the permissions of boards, to make them private (only the creator can see them), or shared with specific user groups only.

Yes!

Any user can create Personal Boards, just for them.

Yes! Boards can be scoped to specific Projects, and permissions can be changed so only specific users/groups have access to a board

Not yet. At this time, anyone can create personal and project level boards for any of the projects they have access to.

We do however have more advanced permissions handling on the roadmap for a future release.

There isn't really a wayto organize boards into folders, or anything like that.

Not yet.

Issues in boards are updated in real-time. So, if issue details change, the cards on a board will always reflect the latest details of an issue.

Nope. Create as many as you want.

Yes. Agile Boards can be used with any project.

Yes. Agile Boards can be used with any project.

Not yet, but this is something on our roadmap and will be coming soon.

At this time, you can map priority, issue type, and assignee to board columns/lanes.

More fields will come in the future.

Install / Uninstall / Upgrade

You can install the app directly from your Jira Cloud instance by visiting the "Apps" page, and searching for "Simple Agile" in the "Find new Apps" screen.

Once installed, you're immediately ready to go, and can create new Boards without any other extra configuration or changes needed to Jira.

Atlassian provides customers with a Sandbox Jira Cloud instance. You can install the app there for testing purposes.

Additionally, you could sign up for a new Jira Cloud evaluation, and install it there as well to test out things.

Jira Cloud apps are typically upgraded automatically by Atlassian whenever we make a release in the marketplace.

The exception to that is If we require additional permissions from you. In that case, you have to manually upgrade from the "Manage Apps" screen, by clicking the upgrade button, as this grants us the additional permissions we request.

You can either uninstall the app from the "Manage Apps" screen, and then reinstall from the Atlassian Marketplace.

Uninstalling the app keeps your Boards and other data in tact until your subscription expires. Thus, if you reinstall the app after uninstalling it, your data will come right back.

When you uninstall we hold on to your data until your subscription expires.

Once your subscription (or evaluation) is marked as expired or cancelled, we delete your data within 7 days

Developer / Technical Questions

We store Boards in our own database. This includes board definitions (selected projects, columns, swimlanes, permissions), as well as which column or lane an issue is assigned to. If you have columns or swimlanes tied to issue fields, we automatically update the issue itself when an issue card is moved, which would be the same as when you edit a field.

We encrypt all data at rest, and backup our data daily.

Absolutely not!

We store the names of board configuration (name, description, project ids, as well as column/lane definitions.

The board configuration can include a JQL query, which we store as well, so we can easily retrieve the issues related to a board.

We do not store any credentials, usernames, emails, project names, or any other issue fields like summary, description ..etc

Currently there is no way for you to backup your data separately. We run backups daily, so you don't have to worry about this.
